First Presbyterian Church of Lexington was established in 1827. The initial church structure was built in 1840 and is thought to be the oldest church building in Davidson County. This structure has been remodeled and added on to many times over the last 158 years.
First Presbyterian Church's latest construction project began with a demolition phase to make way for a new 5,000 s.f. educational wing, along with renovations to the music department, parlor, narthex, vestibule and administrative offices.
The church also made its entire building handicapped accessible and some of the walls in the fellowship hall were removed to enlarge the room.
A new heating and air conditioning system was installed. New roofs were installed to rid the church of some leaking problems. However, the slate roof over the sanctuary was repaired–not replaced. The entire project more than doubled the church's storage space.
The church's programs continued throughout the construction process.
