Elon University Academic Village
Elon, NC

Architect: Spillman Farmer Architect
Sq. Feet: 19,800 s.f.

Elon University's Pavilions 4 and 5 in the Academic Village surround a central lawn and outdoor amphitheater.

Both buildings have a slab on grade first floor with a structural steel frame and load bearing metal studs to support the 2nd floor. The exterior is almost entirely brick veneer, with wood beams and trim. The main shingle roof is accented with metal roofing at the side alcoves. The front colonnade features painted 36" diameter GFRC column enclosed, an EPDM flat roof, and PVC panels and wood railings. The area beneath the colonnade has a brick knee wall with architectural precast coping that frames out a brick paver patio.

The interior features prefinished wood doors, many with glass lites and sidelites. Carpeted throughout, the entry lobbies and main 1st floor corridors are highlighted by floor file. Rooms are brightly colored painted drywall with acoustical ceilings. In addition to the modern and energy efficient mechanical and electrical systems, the large 2nd floor classrooms and seminar rooms are equipped with AV projectors and screens.

"Kirkland's Project Manager and Superintendent were exceptional managers of the construction efforts for our two pavillions. Their attention to detail and willingness to get the job done with a minimum of fuss was a pleasure to watch and a joy to behold.

I would give my highest recommendation that Kirkland be selected to participate in future projects at Elon University."

Neil Bromilow, P.E., Director of Construction Management, Elon University

"Our firm has designed several buildings at Elon over the past six years, and I can honestly say that Kirkland's Project Manager is the only PM who successfully satisfied the Owner's requests.

As a result of the collaboration between Kirkland's Project Manager and Superintendent, the buildings look great and were turned over to the Owner six weeks ahead of schedule."

Thomas K. Woods, AIA Spillman Farmer Architect
